Cladwell: A Men's Wardrobe Automatic Generator

10/9/14

I am always searching for men’s clothing tips and I came across this website www.Cladwell.com .  It’s a new interesting way for unstylish men to create a full wardrobe for a season based off a few factors.  Apparently the site has been through a huge renovation and is much better and different than before.

So I decided to see what this site was about and created my account.  I customized my clothing goals with a balance of “cool and interesting”, noticeable over ignorable, appropriate over comfortable, dress to impress, fashionable over functional and experimental.

I chose “$$$” (because I'm a baller) the highest price level of clothing which is described as J.Crew,

Banana Republic and Brooks Brothers level (not that I am a fan of any of those labels).  I listed myself as a hoodie/t-shirt person only 1-2 days a week, a button-down and casual jacket 5-6 times a week, a sweater and dress shirt (business casual) person 5-6 times a week and a suit person only 1-2 days a week.

I also listed myself as someone who lives in the “Northern exposure climate” since the map only had America I based my Vancouver climate off Seattle (close enough).

My body type I listed as trapezoidal, hair as black and eyes as (unsparkly) brown.

I created my account and Cladwell instantly started asking if I owned random pieces of fall clothing.

I went down the list and checked off the clothes I had.  This site is pretty much a checklist creator for all the items you need to get to be “Fashionable” for the season.

I hear the site will soon feature an outfit creator which sounded interesting and I look forward to seeing that.  The site also links places to buy the required items (usually Nordstrom).  I also thought it was very interesting that all of my favorite designers were heavily recommended.  Hugo Boss was recommended for almost all the pieces for my generated wardrobe, a label that strangely already makes up most of my current wardrobe (so I must be doing something right.)
(I disagree with my style fingerprint, I really hate trends but that's for another day)

I really recommend all guys to try this site, it’s quick and easy (and more importantly free) with promising new features in the future.  Maybe in the future the entire fashion will be run by robots.  What do you think?

It has been a month since I first used this site...  Have I been using it?  In all honesty, not really but I log in every few weeks when I'm bored enough.  I would say this site has affected the way I choose clothes, I carry a rough mental image of this list and I try to pick the pieces I like.  I am definitely not buying clothes like a checklist like how the site creators intended.

  1. Teied to log into my account today and was told that all members that had free accounts could no longer use the site without upgrading to the paid version. Looks like I won't be using Cladwell anymore. I can't see paying a website $4 a month just to tell me what their sponsers think I should be wearing. But check them out. You might feel differently.
